Harding Clark criticism confirms that HSE is just another layer of bureaucracy

The Green Party has said that HSE’s failure to “follow through” on Judge Harding Clark’s report into the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, confirms that the body is just another layer of bureaucracy.

Green Party spokesperson on Health John Gormley TD said: “The failure of the HSE to implement key recommendations of the Harding Clark report confirms that this new body has simply added a new layer of bureaucracy to the health service. “When the setting up of the HSE was being debated in the Dáil many of us predicted that this would be the case and that it would result in less accountability and transparency. The purpose in setting up the HSE was to deflect attention from the Tanáiste and the Minister for Health. Mary Harney has tried to play the blame game in recent weeks and no doubt she will try to blame the HSE for this latest failure. However, she bears ultimate responsibility for the appalling state of our health service.

“It is an insult to the women who suffered at the hands of Dr. Neary that two months after the publication of this report there is still no executive management board in place. One only has to look at the failure to implement the Tanáiste’s ten point plan for A&E to know that there are serious managerial problems in the HSE,” concluded Deputy Gormley.
