Gormley protests in Shannon with other Oireachtas members
Green Party Chairman and Foreign Affairs spokesperson, John Gormley TD today protested along with other members of the Oireachtas at Shannon airport against the continued use of the airport as a US military stopover.
“The Irish Government must end its collusion with the Bush administration in the Iraq war, which has proven to be counter-productive and destabilising. We are now on the verge of a civil war which can only result in the emergence of a more fundamentalist regime,” he said.
“Bush’s mistakes have strengthened the hand of the Iranians and he is compounding his errors by threatening Iran. It’s time for the Government to realise that the majority of Irish people do not support the war in Iraq. Indeed, the latest surveys from the USA indicate that the majority of Americans do not support the war,” Mr Gormley concluded
